2 years?!
Yes! We don't like being rushed and want to give you all the same courtesy by giving our guests as much time as possible to plan and budget. You'll thank us later!
Please keep in mind, that we are still in the process of confirming things. Most venues and flights are only able to be booked a year out. Much like life in general, things are subject to change. We will keep everyone updated via this website and through emails and personal texts. As a rule of thumb: always ask before booking anything (i.e. airline tickets). As a reminder, we are expert planners. Trust in your bride and groom to ensure that we will do our very best to ensure a seamless trip within our power.
Is Italy set in stone?
We are about 99% sure about choosing Italy, though things may happen that we cannot control. We are in a unique situation where we can hear from the guests as we craft out our dream wedding--a luxury that we're thankful for: time.
"Wait--what? Did I miss the proposal?!"
No worries, you have not! There has been no engagement--YET. ;)
"I'm so excited! And I just can't hide it!"
We are excited too! With that being said, please do not share on social media until later on! We will let you know when you can post, cause we 100% will be too!
"The winds of change"
Carmen's career is heavily dependent on flight training. It is possible that things may moved a year back to 2026. If this is the scenario, there's even more time to save which is making a bad thing kinda of a good thing, right? We're rolling with the punches with ya. Surf's up!
"What should my budget be?"
We want to give our guests as much time as humanly possible to prepare for this magical week. Originally we had requested for our guests to have $2,500 saved up, but to have some buffer we feel that $3,000 is the safest estimate. We are aiming for the lower end of $2,500, but we are unable to predict this at the moment. This will include your airfare, transportation to and from the villa, food (3x/day), and lodging for 1 week. We strongly recommend $3,500-$4,000 if you plan for any personal expenses or souvenirs. In a worst-case scenario, you will have an extra $500. We have surely experienced worse problems!
Italy is rich in culture, experience, and delicious food. Be prepared for extra funds so you don't go over budget and are able to enjoy all of Italy's charms in this second-to-none opportunity.
"When should we give you money?"
We request the first payment is made no later than July 1st, 2024 (next summer). We have a 'soft RSVP' set for all our guests. If you are 100% sure you'd like to come, please send $500 over immediately via Venmo to Carmen @carmenvera to secure a space. We will consider this a 'hard RSVP'. We will also make a list that you will be able to pick your space first depending on the order you have paid. Regardless, all rooms at the villa will be spacious and suited for a large party.
We vow to keep things as affordable as possible. Check out our budget timeline tab for a helpful guide.
What if I change my mind?
This is a very difficult question to answer. To prevent this from happening, please consider your lifestyle and schedule. While we understand it's hard to project 2 years out, you will have to make that final decision in July 2024 for yourself. If your first payment has been made for accommodations, we won't be able to honor a refund, especially less than a year out. We need to pay the villa owners in full and it has the potential to change the budget for other guests which we are trying to prevent. The good news is you still have a whole year to make your final decision!
"How much time will I need to take off from work?"
The best amount of time is 7-10 days (adjusted for travel and jet lag). We will have the villa for a minimum of 7 days. Plan on 7 days of fun, red wine, and bellies full of homemade pizza. You may choose to leave earlier if you wish. 3-5 days is a short stay, but will do. Please note, you are still responsible for the cost of all 7 days even if you do not plan to utilize them.
"What dates should I tentatively expect?"
We are aiming for a hot summer night in mid-July to honor the Lord and Savior of the Goddess, Lana Del Rey.
As of now, please anticipate flying out toward the end of July. The rehearsal dinner will be on a Monday. The reception will be the next day, Tuesday. Expect to be hungover on Wednesday! We will have the villa booked until the following Friday. These dates are subject to fluctuation a day or 2 depending on the villa.
You will be notified of the exact dates once we confirm.
"I don't have a passport."
Sweet child, you will need to obtain one immediately. The sooner the better. Please note that if your passport expires 6 months before July 2025, the United States will not let you travel. Please renew your passports accordingly and check out our important travel documents page!
"When do you need my final answer?"
No later than 1 year out. 9 months at the VERY latest in a worst-case scenario!
"That's a lot of money, I don't know if I can afford it."
Hey, we get it! We are asking our guests to travel all the way across the Atlantic Ocean to see us tie the knot. We don't see how it can't be pricy. What works for us is breaking down and budgeting month by month or even week by week. Please see our separate budget breakdown page. We encourage you to reach out to us for concerns. If you don't think you'll be able to make it, please join us in Palm Springs, California for our U.S. reception. No passport is needed!
"How will we get airplane tickets?"
All guests are responsible for booking airfare. Your seat selection and airline will all depend on what you choose and will impact your budget greatly. For the tickets that look affordable, take note of the layover stops in between. As far as we know, there is not a direct flight. 1 stop must be made. Be cautious of 2 stop flights. While they may be affordable, they may have long wait times and/or a required stay overnight. Our hope is that most everyone in our party can book the same flight as us. For any air line related questions, you may reach out to Carmen directly.
"How do I get there?"
You will need to fly into Italy into the determined city (likely Florence, airport code: FLR). We will choose a destination with no more than 2 flights and a short ride by car or train. We plan to organize shuttles for everyone according to their arrival time.
"What is the lodging situation?"
We will have lodging provided where we can all stay together on a large estate. Please let us know if you have a preference or request for sleeping arrangements. Please keep in mind we will still need to confirm reservations with a villa, but not to worry. There are plenty of options, and they are GORGEOUS. As a couple who loves to entertain, we will put comfort at the forefront in order for our guests to enjoy the week at full capacity.
If you do not wish to stay on a large estate with he wedding party, there are neighboring spaces nearby and we are happy to help you plan that out.
"I don't need accomodations. I would like to have my own."
That's no problem! If that's the case, let us know as soon as possible so we can open up a bed. With this option, you will not be responsible to us financially at all unless you request the airport shuttle which we're happy to set up for you. Reach out to Carmen directly for the villa's address or any accommodation or transportation concerns.
"What is the attire?"
This is a black-tie event. Look your best, feel your best. This will be a memorable day with a lot of photos. You will remember this week forever. On our more casual days, you are still welcome to wear whatever you'd like. Keep in mind 1. It will be summer, 2. Italians pride themselves on looking their best, so dressing a little more upscale than usual will allow you to fit in just like a local!
"Will we have time for sight seeing or shopping?"
Absolutely! We are in Italy after all! We will leave the last days after the ceremony open should you want to enjoy the city. The transportation in Italy is very traveler-friendly. As always, you are welcome to relax. Remember that there is a pool at the villa as well! We plan to have other activities planned but it is not required for everyone to participate. Please note that anything not planned by us is not included in the pricing and you will be responsible for separate transportation or activities.
"Can I bring a guest?"
Shhh! We are eloping. We ask for a private and intimate wedding between invited family and friends only. We only have a certain amount of spots, so we cannot accommodate extra people. We appreciate your consideration.
"Are children allowed to come?"
[Brianna, don't read this part!] While we love the kids, we respectfully request you leave them at home so we can fully enjoy an adult-only celebration with tons of adult-themed jokes and alcohol!
"I have food allergies or a medical condition."
Please let either Carmen or Jeff know privately and we will do our best to accommodate. You may also write into the short answer section when you RSVP.
"What should I pack?"
Italy is warm during this time, so we recommend casual, breathable clothes in addition to your black-tie attire for the ceremony. Our accommodations are in the charming, traditional countryside. We are aiming to get air conditioning inside the villa, but note that outdoors may be toasty, but we anticipate having a pool to take a nice dip.
The bride kindly requests to leave any white clothing at home (unless required by bridesmaids and groomsmen). For a checklist, check our packing guide list so you don't forget anything!
"Will there be alcohol?"
Dumb questions really do exist.
"What about food for the week?"
Our plan is to have 3 meals a day catered. You will not starve, especially in Italy!
"Hey guys, sounds great, but I'm still really not sure yet."
It's our promise to you we will try to keep costs to a minimum, but not sacrifice quality at the same time. Please also be aware that this is a group effort. If one person drops out last minute, it impacts the rest of the group. Do not make the commitment if you do not feel comfortable. We'd like to give our guests an accurate estimate. Our loved ones are spending a lot of money to see us get married and we respect, honor, and don't take it lightly. Consider this a once-in-a-lifetime experience to celebrate love, food, family, and friends, all in the beautiful countryside of Italy! Ultimately, the choice is yours and you do not need to give us an explanation.
"What if I can come last minute?"
We'll do our best to accommodate you, but our hands are tied if all spots are already full. In that situation, we recommend accommodations within the same neighborhood so you are nearby for the ceremony. Don't worry, we still have a year out before we start making executive decisions. You will have a space reserved for you until next summer when you make your final decision.
"I can't go!"
We are so sad to hear that and we understand. Please let us know as soon as possible so we can have a current guest list for the wedding planner. You are welcome to come to our Palm Springs reception or reach out to us if you'd like to do something privately.
"I still have questions!"
That's okay! Reach out to either Carmen or Jeff!
